I first met Bill Suarez when he showed up as a student in one of my singing classes over at L.A. Harbor College. Two things about him impressed me right away. The first thing plainly obvious to me was that he’s a humble man with a sweet and gentle soul. The next thing was his natural talent and the fact that his voice has a very nice tone to it. During the course of the 6-week class his breath and pitch control improved dramatically and he also developed a broader range in his voice. I also learned more of Bill’s story.
I discovered that Bill has had a strong and beautiful singing voice from age five on. He’d earned himself a spot with the famous group “Young Americans” in the 1960’s and 1970’s. He’s recorded for ABC Records and appeared in the movie “The Young Americans” for Columbia Pictures. The movie won an Academy Award for Best True Life Documentary. Suarez has performed with Perry Como, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Carol Burnett, and appeared on an NBC special with Perry Como. Unfortunately, Bill stopped singing to take care of his ailing parents and his aunt, and devoted himself to their care until their final days. They have all recently passed away and he has (fortunately for us!) resumed his singing career.
Eventually I found myself more and more enamored with the rich sound of his baritone singing voice, so much so that I just had to get him out of the classroom and into the recording studio. I asked my friend and long-time music-biz associate Dino Maddelone to work with me on producing a CD featuring Bill as the vocalist. The result is Bill’s new album “The Impossible Dream“.
Bill’s album includes 10 all-time favorite standards and an original that has destiny written all over it. If you like the smooth, dreamy tones of Frank Sinatra, Robert Goulet, and Michael Buble, then you’re going to enjoy listening to Bill’s take on “Smile”, “Time After Time”, and “The Impossible Dream”.
